If you live in the UAE and plan to buy crypto more than once, a local AED bank transfer is almost always the route that costs least over time. The licensed exchanges have spent the past two years building proper dirham rails with UAE banks, and several now take deposits with no fee at their end. The catch is in the details: a name mismatch, a USD instead of AED IBAN, or a first transfer flagged by your bank can leave your money sitting in limbo for days.
This guide covers those details. You will see which platforms currently take AED by bank transfer and on what terms, how the name-match and beneficiary rules work, why the first deposit is slow, what Aani does and does not do for crypto buyers, when a SWIFT transfer in USD makes sense, and what UAE banks typically ask when they see transfers to an exchange.
Why a bank transfer is the default route for UAE residents
Card payments add a percentage on every purchase; P2P adds a premium and counterparty risk. A local AED transfer to a licensed exchange, by contrast, usually costs nothing at the exchange’s end and lets you place a at exchange trading fees. On OKX’s UAE AED spot pairs, those fees are 0.10% maker and 0.135% taker according to its published fee framework.
There is also a compliance upside. When you later sell and send dirhams back, your bank sees money returning from the same licensed platform you funded from the same account. That closed loop is the easiest story to explain if anyone asks about . Mixing card buys, P2P sellers and transfers from several accounts makes that story harder.
The trade-off is speed. A card purchase is instant; the first bank deposit can take one or two business days. If you are buying for the long term, that wait is a small price.
Which licensed platforms take free AED deposits
Here is what each major platform publishes or what has been reported in reputable coverage. Fees and limits change, so treat this as a starting point and check the deposit screen before sending.

Binance launched its AED rail with ADCB in June 2026 under the Central Bank’s client money account framework. Khaleej Times reported the launch, and Binance’s own FAQ now confirms deposits at no fee with a minimum of AED 10, processed within one business day under AED 50,000, and withdrawals at a flat AED 10 (AED 11 minimum). A first-deposit hold now applies: your first AED deposits can be traded at once but not withdrawn for 24 hours. It is open to UAE residents aged 18 and over who pass KYC.
Crypto.com lists free AED deposits by local bank transfer from AED 10 on its UAE buy page, next to card, Apple Pay and Google Pay. OKX runs a dedicated AED order book, so you can trade BTC/AED or USDT/AED without an extra currency conversion; its help centre confirms no OKX deposit fee, transfers from local UAE banks only (Wise, Revolut and e-wallets are rejected) and up to five linked bank accounts in your name. The minimum is shown in the app rather than published. Besides a standard transfer, OKX offers Pay by Bank and an Instant Deposit option for Mashreq and Wio customers.
Bybit’s federally licensed entity added direct AED bank deposits and withdrawals in early 2026, requiring a personal UAE account in your own name. Deposits are free, withdrawals cost AED 25, and the minimum is AED 100 each way. Note that this entity does not serve Dubai residents; Bybit’s separate VARA licence covers spot trading only and its Dubai launch date had not been announced at the time of checking.
Rain and BitOasis both take free AED deposits too. Rain accepts a manual transfer (about a day) or Easy Deposit, an open-banking link to 14 UAE banks that settles in minutes. BitOasis takes wires to its Zand Bank account plus Easy Funding, both at 0%, from AED 100.
Step by step: your first AED deposit
- Step
Pick a licensed platform with an AED rail
Choose a platform from the table above, or any other on the register that publishes local AED deposit details in its app. If you live outside Dubai, check which entity will onboard you, since some brands use different licensed entities for Dubai and the rest of the UAE.
- Step
Verify with the same name as your bank account
Complete with your Emirates ID or passport and proof of address. The name on the exchange profile must match the name on your bank account character for character. If your bank shows a shortened version such as “MOHAMMED A. KHAN” while your ID shows “Mohammed Abdullah Khan”, ask support before sending. A missing family name or a deposit from a spouse’s account is a typical reason for a returned transfer.
- Step
Copy the AED deposit details
In the app, go to deposit, choose AED and bank transfer, and copy the IBAN, beneficiary name and any reference code. Crypto.com, for example, uses a different IBAN for AED local transfers and for USD SWIFT transfers; sending dirhams to the USD details is a common way to get stuck. If a reference code is shown, it is how the exchange matches your money to your account, so include it exactly.
- Step
Send a local transfer from your own account
Add the exchange as a new beneficiary in your banking app. Some UAE banks apply a cooling-off period or a lower limit to new beneficiaries, so the first transfer may need to wait or be smaller. Start with a test of a few hundred dirhams; once it lands, send the rest.
- Step
Wait for the first deposit to clear
Crypto.com says the first local AED deposit can take up to two business days, after which deposits usually arrive within minutes. Binance’s ADCB rail processes deposits under AED 50,000 within one business day. Weekends and UAE public holidays push this out. If nothing arrives after the stated window, contact the exchange with your bank’s transfer confirmation.
- Step
Buy, then keep the paper trail
Once the AED balance shows, buy on an AED pair with a limit order, or convert to USDT if you plan to trade other pairs. Save the bank confirmation and the exchange’s deposit record together; they are the first documents a bank or tax adviser will want later.
Aani and crypto: what is true right now
Aani is the instant payment platform run by Al Etihad Payments, a Central Bank subsidiary. It moves AED between participating banks and payment providers in seconds, around the clock, using a mobile number or IBAN. According to the Aani FAQs and Al Etihad Payments, the system limit is AED 50,000 per transaction, and each bank sets its own daily and per-transfer caps, often lower. CBI, for instance, uses AED 10,000 per transaction and AED 50,000 per day, and Emirates Islamic AED 5,000–10,000.
Here is the honest part. No licensed crypto exchange officially documents as a deposit method. We checked the help centres and fee pages of OKX, Binance, Bybit, BitOasis, Rain and CoinMENA. The nearest real equivalents are open-banking routes: OKX Pay by Bank and Instant Deposit, Rain Easy Deposit and BitOasis Easy Funding, none of which is described as Aani. Pages that promise “buy crypto with Aani” are usually describing P2P trades where the seller lists Aani as a way to receive dirhams, which is a different thing with different risks; see our P2P guide.
If an exchange starts accepting Aani directly, your bank’s own caps will apply, so it would suit everyday amounts rather than large purchases.
SWIFT and USD deposits: when they make sense
Some platforms also accept USD by SWIFT. This can make sense if your salary is paid in dollars, if you hold a USD account at a UAE bank, or if you are funding from abroad. Because the dirham is pegged at 3.6725 per US dollar, the currency risk between AED and USD is minimal; the cost is in transfer fees.
Your bank charges an outgoing SWIFT fee, and correspondent banks in the chain may deduct their own charges, so the amount that lands can be less than you sent. Arrival typically takes longer than a local AED transfer. For a UAE resident with an AED account, a local transfer to the exchange’s AED IBAN is simpler and cheaper; keep SWIFT for genuine USD funds.
What UAE banks ask when you send money to an exchange
UAE banks make their own risk decisions about crypto. Historically, Emirates NBD blocked some transfers to and from BitOasis, and law firms have reported account closures after banks spotted exchange inflows. Those reports are mostly from before the current licensing regime; we did not find current blanket bans at ADCB or FAB, and ADCB itself now powers Binance’s AED rail.
Under the federal AML law that took effect in October 2025, banks and VASPs both carry full due-diligence duties. In practice that means a few things for you. A first transfer to an exchange may trigger a call or an in-app question about the purpose. Larger or unusual amounts may prompt a request for evidence, such as salary slips or a sale agreement. And repeated transfers from many different people into your account, the typical pattern of a P2P seller, are exactly what bank monitoring is built to catch.
The simplest defence is consistency: one personal account, one or two licensed platforms, amounts that match the income you declared at onboarding. If your bank is uncomfortable, our crypto-friendly banks guide compares how UAE banks handle exchange transfers.
Common bank-transfer problems and fixes
Deposit returned. Usually a name mismatch, a third-party account or a missing reference. Fix the cause, then resend from your own account with the correct reference.
Transfer stuck “in process” at your bank. New beneficiary checks are common. Call the bank, confirm you initiated the transfer and that the beneficiary is a licensed exchange.
Money arrived, balance not credited. Send the exchange support team your bank confirmation showing the date, amount and IBAN. Do not send a second transfer to “push” the first.
Wrong currency details used. If you sent AED to a USD SWIFT IBAN, the bank may convert or return it. Contact both sides quickly and keep every receipt.
Bank transfer vs card vs P2P at a glance
For a first-time buyer with a UAE salary account, the order we would follow is simple. Use a bank transfer to a licensed exchange for anything you plan to hold. Use a card or Apple Pay only for a small, urgent purchase, accepting the extra 2–4% or so; our card and Apple Pay guide covers declines and cash-advance traps. Use P2P only if both other routes are blocked.
