Shiba Inu began in 2020 as a self-styled “Dogecoin killer”, a memecoin with a cartoon dog and an enormous token supply. Five years later it had a federal UAE ministry announcing a collaboration with it. In February 2025 the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure said it would work with the Shiba Inu team on blockchain tools for its operations. Eight days later, VARA in Dubai issued a public warning about the risks of memecoins. That pairing says a lot about SHIB in the UAE: a real ecosystem with institutional attention, attached to a token that still trades on hype.
This guide is practical. It explains where you can buy SHIB through licensed channels with dirhams, why the tiny price per token fools people, how to store an Ethereum token safely, and how to avoid the fake SHIB contracts that are one of the most common traps for newcomers. It is an independent guide, not investment advice. SHIB can lose most of its value quickly.
Where to buy SHIB in the UAE with AED
Start with a licensed platform. In Dubai (outside DIFC), crypto platforms serving residents need a licence from VARA, and you can look any name up on the VARA public register.
BitOasis (VARA licence VL/2024/11/001, broker-dealer) is the clearest local option. SHIB was added to its list in a February 2022 batch and still appears among its supported assets. Because BitOasis is a broker-dealer, you buy at its quoted price, so compare the buy and sell quotes to see the .
The big VARA-licensed exchanges (Binance FZE, OKX Middle East, Crypto.com) list SHIB on their global platforms, but we could not confirm each UAE entity’s coin list from a primary source. Check for SHIB in the app before you deposit. Bank apps do not carry it: neither Liv X’s 11-coin list nor RAKBANK’s published 21-coin list includes SHIB.
CEX.IO also sells SHIB to UAE residents by card and Apple Pay. It is a global exchange operating since 2013 with a Gibraltar GFSC DLT-provider licence and US FinCEN MSB registration. It has no AED bank rail.
On most exchanges, SHIB trades against USDT rather than AED. The route is then AED → USDT → SHIB, which means two trades and two fees. For a full comparison of platforms and funding methods, see how to buy crypto in the UAE.
Why SHIB’s tiny unit price misleads
SHIB’s price has many zeros after the decimal point, which makes it feel “cheap”. People see a tiny number and imagine it reaching one dirham. That is the single most common misunderstanding about this coin.
The price per token says nothing on its own. What matters is market capitalisation: price multiplied by the number of tokens. SHIB’s supply is in the hundreds of trillions of tokens. To see why that matters, multiply. At one dirham per token, SHIB’s total value would be hundreds of trillions of dirhams. That is more than the entire world economy produces in a year. It is not a forecast; it is arithmetic.
Here is a practical example. Spend AED 500 on SHIB and you may receive tens of millions of tokens. It feels like owning a lot. But AED 500 of SHIB and AED 500 of Bitcoin rise or fall by the same dirham amount for the same percentage move. A 10% gain on either is AED 50. The token count is just how the units are divided.
Step by step: buying Shiba Inu with dirhams
- Step
Find a licensed platform that lists SHIB
Search the platform’s legal name on the VARA register and confirm it is Active. Then search SHIB inside the app. A licence for the local entity does not mean every coin on the global website is available to UAE clients.
- Step
Verify your identity and deposit AED
Complete with your Emirates ID or passport, a selfie and proof of address if asked. You must be 18 or older. Send AED by local bank transfer from an account in your own name, and keep the confirmation. It forms part of your trail later.
- Step
Buy SHIB by value, not by token count
Enter the dirham amount, not a number of tokens. Use a on a USDT pair to control the price. Many people start with AED 100–300 to learn the process. That is plenty to see how SHIB moves.
- Step
Prepare an Ethereum wallet and some ETH for gas
If you want to self-custody, set up an Ethereum-compatible wallet (Ledger, Trust Wallet or MetaMask). Moving SHIB requires a paid in ETH, not in SHIB. Keep a small ETH balance in the same wallet.
- Step
Withdraw SHIB on the Ethereum network
Select the Ethereum (ERC-20) network in the withdrawal form and paste your address (it starts with “0x”). Send a small test, confirm it arrived, then send the rest. Above AED 3,500 the platform will ask Travel Rule questions about the receiving wallet.
SHIB is an Ethereum token: what that means for fees and wallets
SHIB does not have its own base blockchain the way Dogecoin does. It is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, and moving it follows Ethereum’s rules. Every transfer pays gas in ETH. When Ethereum is busy, moving a small SHIB balance can cost a noticeable share of its value. Exchanges usually charge a fixed SHIB withdrawal fee that covers this, so check it before you withdraw a small amount.
The Shiba Inu team also runs Shibarium, an Ethereum Layer-2 network built for the SHIB ecosystem with lower fees. It is what the UAE ministry collaboration refers to. Not every exchange supports SHIB withdrawals on Shibarium, and some offer wrapped SHIB on other chains such as BNB Smart Chain. The must match on both sides. If in doubt, use plain ERC-20 on Ethereum, which every SHIB-capable wallet supports.
Wallets that hold SHIB:
- Ledger — a for . Buy in the UAE from official resellers such as Noon, Virgin Megastores, Shift Electronics or Dubai Duty Free, not from anonymous marketplace sellers.
- Trust Wallet — a mobile wallet that supports Ethereum tokens, including SHIB.
- MetaMask — a browser and mobile Ethereum wallet; SHIB shows once you add the official token contract.
Whichever you use, the controls everything. Write it on paper, keep it offline, and never type it into a website or a chat. Our crypto wallet guide for the UAE compares these wallets for different budgets.
Fake SHIB tokens and other scams
Anyone can create a token on Ethereum and call it “SHIB” or “Shiba Inu” with the same logo. Such fakes are a constant presence. They show up as “airdrops” in your wallet, on decentralised exchanges, and in Telegram groups promising the “next SHIB”. A fake token may display a large balance and then turn out to be impossible to sell, or it may lead you to a site that asks you to “approve” a transaction that drains your real tokens.
How to protect yourself:
- Use the official contract only. Get the SHIB contract address from the official shib.io site and cross-check it on Etherscan before adding it to MetaMask or trading on a . Never rely on the ticker or logo.
- Ignore surprise tokens. If SHIB-branded tokens appear in your wallet uninvited, do not interact with them or visit the site in their name.
- Distrust giveaways. “Send 1 million SHIB, receive 2 million back” is always a scam, no matter whose face is on the livestream.
- Be wary of “ministry-backed” pitches. The MoEI collaboration is about technology. Anyone using it to sell you SHIB or a new token “approved by the UAE government” is misleading you.

The UAE ministry collaboration, in proportion
On 5 February 2025 the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure announced it was working with Shiba Inu to support its digital transformation. It mentioned ShibOS, the team’s framework for building blockchain services, and reporting linked it to Shibarium (MoEI). It is a genuine government announcement, and that is rare for a memecoin project.
Keep it in proportion, though. The announcement did not say the ministry would buy or hold SHIB tokens, use SHIB for payments, or endorse it as an investment. Public financial terms and deployment results were not published at the time of checking. A technology collaboration does not change the risk of the token. Eight days after the announcement, Dubai’s crypto regulator still felt the need to warn the public about memecoins.

There is no personal income tax in the UAE, so an individual’s gains on SHIB are not taxed here. Conversions between virtual assets are VAT-exempt under the 2024 amendments. Large-scale trading that looks like a business can fall under the 9% corporate tax, and your home country may still tax you. See crypto tax in the UAE for details.
Because SHIB balances run into millions of tokens, keep exports in AED value as well as token counts. That makes it much easier to explain your history to a bank if you later cash out.
Our practical take on SHIB
If you want some Shiba Inu, keep it simple. Buy through a licensed platform that lists it, enter your purchase in dirhams, and decide upfront whether to leave SHIB on the platform or move it to an Ethereum wallet you control. Verify the token contract every time you add it to a wallet. Above all, size SHIB like the memecoin it is: an amount you could watch fall by most of its value without regret.
