How to Buy XRP in the UAE

XRP has an unusually concrete UAE story, from Dubai Land Department tokens on the XRP Ledger to Ripple's DIFC licence. Here is how to buy it with dirhams and withdraw it without losing coins to a missing tag.

Start with a small amount and a test withdrawal.

Quick answer

XRP is listed on VARA-licensed platforms such as BitOasis and in the Liv X and RAKBANK bank apps, so UAE residents can buy it with AED after Emirates ID verification. The DLD's PRYPCO Mint records tokenised title deeds on the XRP Ledger, but those tokens are bought in AED, not with XRP. When withdrawing XRP to an exchange, always include the destination tag.

Most coins have a “UAE angle” that is really just a listing. XRP has more. The Dubai Land Department’s tokenised title-deed pilot records ownership tokens on the XRP Ledger. Ripple has run its Middle East headquarters out of DIFC since 2020 and holds a DFSA licence. Its dollar stablecoin, RLUSD, is recognised in both of the UAE’s financial free zones. If you live here and follow crypto, you have probably seen XRP mentioned next to “Dubai” more than once.

That story is real, but it is easy to read too much into it. This guide separates what the UAE connections actually mean from what they do not. It then covers the practical part: where to buy XRP with dirhams, and how to withdraw it without the classic mistake of forgetting a destination tag. It is an independent guide, not investment advice. XRP’s price is volatile and can fall sharply.

In May 2025 the Dubai Land Department went live with PRYPCO Mint, a pilot platform for tokenised real estate. It was built with PRYPCO as distributor and Ctrl Alt, a VARA-licensed firm, as the tokenisation engine. Ctrl Alt issues the ownership tokens, and they are recorded on the XRP Ledger, the public blockchain whose native asset is XRP (Fintech Times). The minimum ticket was AED 2,000. The first listing, a Business Bay apartment, sold out within hours to 224 investors from more than 40 nationalities. A secondary market opened on 20 February 2026 for UAE residents with an Emirates ID. The DLD has forecast that tokenised property could reach about AED 60 billion by 2033.

The important point is how you pay: PRYPCO Mint is funded in AED, not in XRP. Investors pay in dirhams and receive a token that represents a fractional property stake. XRP is used by the ledger in the background for things like the account reserve, but buying XRP does not give you any claim on Dubai property. Likewise, you do not need to own XRP to invest in PRYPCO Mint. Treat any social media post that says “DLD is buying XRP” or “XRP will be used for Dubai property payments” with suspicion. Nothing in the official announcements says that.

What the pilot does show is that a Dubai government department chose the XRP Ledger for a regulated product. That is a meaningful vote of confidence in the technology, not a price signal. For how to actually buy a whole property with crypto, see buying property with crypto in Dubai.

RLUSD: Ripple’s stablecoin is not XRP

People often mix up XRP and RLUSD. RLUSD is a US-dollar issued by Ripple and backed to keep a 1:1 . It runs on both the XRP Ledger and Ethereum. The DFSA recognised RLUSD for use in DIFC in June 2025 (Ripple). In November 2025, ADGM in Abu Dhabi accepted it as an Accepted Fiat-Referenced Token (Ripple). Since the DFSA moved to firm-led token assessments in January 2026, it still approves fiat tokens, and RLUSD is among them alongside USDC and EURC.

For a retail buyer, the difference is simple. XRP’s price floats with the market. RLUSD is designed to stay at one dollar. Free-zone recognition makes RLUSD usable by regulated firms in DIFC and ADGM. It does not make it an AED payment token under the Central Bank’s rules, and it does not mean every UAE retail app lists it. Ripple has also named UAE fintech clients for its payments business, such as Zand Bank and Mamo. That is business-to-business plumbing, not a retail XRP product.

Where to buy XRP with dirhams

XRP is one of the more widely available coins on UAE-licensed venues:

  • BitOasis (VARA licence VL/2024/11/001, broker-dealer) names XRP in its supported asset list.
  • Liv X by Emirates NBD launched in March 2025 with BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP and ADA, and now lists 11 coins, XRP still among them. The standard commission on Liv’s charges page is 2% + VAT, waived during limited-time campaigns.
  • RAKBANK includes XRP in its published 21-coin list via Bitpanda Broker MENA FZCO, at 0.5% to buy on the standard tier; coins cannot be moved to external wallets.
  • Binance FZE, OKX Middle East and Crypto.com hold VARA licences and list XRP globally. Confirm XRP is tradable in the UAE app before you fund it.
  • CEX.IO sells XRP to UAE residents by card and Apple Pay. It is a global exchange operating since 2013 with a Gibraltar GFSC DLT-provider licence and US FinCEN MSB registration. It has no AED bank rail.

Check any name directly on the VARA public register; our UAE crypto regulation guide explains how to read an entry. On exchanges without a direct XRP/AED pair, the route is AED → USDT → XRP, which means two trades and two fees. In a bank app you pay one all-in price in dirhams but usually cannot withdraw to your own wallet. Our hub on how to buy crypto in the UAE compares platforms and funding methods.

Step by step: buying XRP and withdrawing it safely

  1. Step

Pick a licensed app that lists XRP

Decide whether you want XRP inside your bank (simple, usually no withdrawals) or on an exchange (cheaper per trade, full control). Search the legal entity on the VARA register, then search XRP in the app itself.

  2. Step

    Verify and fund in dirhams

Complete with your Emirates ID or passport. Exchanges also want a selfie and sometimes proof of address. Fund by local AED transfer from an account in your own name. Keep the bank confirmation for your records.

  3. Step

Buy XRP with a limit order

Use a rather than a market order, especially if you are going via USDT. On broker-style screens, compare the buy and sell price to see the . A first purchase of a few hundred dirhams is a sensible way to learn the screens.

  4. Step

Set up a wallet and fund the reserve

If you want to hold XRP yourself, create an XRP Ledger wallet. Options include a Ledger hardware wallet, or apps such as Xaman or Trust Wallet. A new address only exists on the ledger once it receives at least the base reserve, currently 1 XRP. That reserve stays locked while the account exists. Write the on paper and keep it offline.

  5. Step

Withdraw with the right address and destination tag

Copy the (XRP addresses start with “r”). If the receiving side is an exchange, also copy its destination tag. Send a small test, confirm it arrived, then send the rest. Above AED 3,500 the platform will also ask Travel Rule questions about the recipient.

Destination tags: the mistake that costs XRP holders the most

On most blockchains, every customer of an exchange gets their own deposit address. On the XRP Ledger, exchanges usually use one shared address for many customers. They tell deposits apart with a destination tag, a number attached to the payment. The XRP Ledger documentation explains that the tag has no on-ledger effect and only tells the receiving business whose account to credit (xrpl.org).

What that means in practice:

  • Sending to an exchange: you must include the tag shown on your deposit screen. Without it, your XRP lands in the exchange’s pooled wallet with no owner attached. Some exchanges reject untagged payments automatically. Others accept them, and you then need a support ticket, proof of the transaction and patience.
  • Sending to your own wallet (Ledger, Xaman, Trust Wallet): you usually do not need a tag. If the withdrawal form insists, check the wallet’s instructions rather than inventing a number.
  • Sending between exchanges: copy the tag from the receiving exchange, never from the sending one.

The account reserve is the second surprise. The XRP Ledger currently requires a base reserve of 1 XRP per account, plus 0.2 XRP for each object such as a trust line or open offer (xrpl.org). If you send 0.8 XRP to a brand-new address, the payment fails because it does not fund the reserve. If you try to empty a wallet completely, about 1 XRP will stay behind. Both are normal ledger rules, not lost funds.

Network fees, speed and storage

XRP Ledger transactions settle in a few seconds, and the network fee is a tiny fraction of an XRP that is destroyed rather than paid to anyone. Exchanges charge their own fixed withdrawal fee on top. Compared with Ethereum’s gas, moving XRP is cheap, which is one reason payment firms like it.

For storage, the usual split applies. Keep a working balance on a licensed platform if you trade, and move longer-term holdings to a . In the UAE you can buy Ledger devices from official resellers such as Noon, Virgin Megastores, Shift Electronics and Dubai Duty Free. Our wallet guide compares Ledger with mobile options and explains which XRP Ledger features each wallet supports.

Tax and record-keeping

Individuals in the UAE pay no personal income tax, so gains on XRP held as a personal investment are not taxed here. Conversions between virtual assets are VAT-exempt under the 2024 amendments. Business-scale trading can fall under the 9% corporate tax above AED 375,000 of profit. Your home country may also tax you. The OECD’s CARF reporting is due to start in the UAE from 2027, so expect licensed platforms to report account data. Our crypto tax guide has the details.

Export your trade history and keep withdrawal records, including destination tags. If a deposit ever goes missing, the transaction hash and tag are what support teams ask for first.

Our practical take on XRP in the UAE

XRP’s UAE connections are some of the most concrete in crypto. A DLD pilot runs on its ledger, Ripple holds a DFSA licence, and RLUSD is recognised in DIFC and ADGM. None of that ties XRP’s price to Dubai property or guarantees anything about its future. If you want XRP, buy it on a licensed app, with a limit order, in an amount you can afford to see swing hard. Then treat destination tags and the 1 XRP reserve as part of the routine.

Questions people ask

Where can I buy XRP with AED in the UAE?
BitOasis, a VARA-licensed broker-dealer, lists XRP, and XRP is on both Emirates NBD's Liv X list and RAKBANK's 21-coin list. Other VARA-licensed exchanges offer XRP on their global platforms; confirm it in the UAE app before depositing.
Does owning XRP give me a share of Dubai property tokens?
No. PRYPCO Mint records title-deed tokens on the XRP Ledger, but investors buy them in AED through the platform. Holding XRP gives you no property rights.
What is an XRP destination tag?
It is a number that tells an exchange which customer a deposit belongs to, because many customers share one XRP address. Sending without the tag can leave your XRP unassigned and require a support ticket.
Is RLUSD the same as XRP?
No. RLUSD is a US-dollar stablecoin issued by Ripple, recognised by the DFSA in June 2025 and by ADGM in November 2025. XRP is the native asset of the XRP Ledger and its price floats.
Why is 1 XRP missing from my new wallet balance?
The XRP Ledger requires every account to hold a base reserve, currently 1 XRP, plus 0.2 XRP for each object such as a trust line. That amount cannot be sent while the account exists.
